By-Election in August

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1972 section 87 (2), notice was given that a vacancy had arisen for a Town Councillor in the ward of Wootton Bassett South.

Rule 5 (2) of the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) (England and Wales) Rules 2006 states that an election to fill this position must be called if request is made in writing “by 10 persons who are named on the register in use at the time of the request as local government electors for the electoral area in which the vacancy has occurred, and within 14 days (computed in accordance with rule 2 of the elections rules in Schedule 2 to these Rules) after public notice of the vacancy has been given in accordance with section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972”.

As a request of this nature was made by ten local government electors of the South Ward of Royal Wootton Bassett, the Returning Officer at Wiltshire Council has called an election to fill the vacant position.
