Every year in December, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council agrees its budget and sets "precept" for the forthcoming year at at meeting of the Full Council. The precept is the element of the Council Tax which is raised and spent by Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council to fund its services it provides. As a Parish Council, Royal Wootton Bassett does not receive any funding from Central Government, nor does it receive any rates from local businesses. For coming year 2019/20, the precept will be £204.81 per Band D property, which equates to an increase of £5 (2.5%) for the year, Click here to download a copy of the precept calculation . Each year the Council is required to complete and submit to its External Auditor, an Annual Governance and Accountablity Return. The Annual Return 2017/18 includes the Annual Governance Statement and Accounting Statements which have been subject to both Internal and External Audit. For 2017/18, the Internal Audit was performed by Lighter Touch and the External Audit was performed by PKF Littlejohn.
Notice of Public Rights
It is where members of the public have the right to inspect the Council's accounts.
The Council's unaudited Annual Governance and Accountability Return for Year Ended 31 March 2019 is made available for public to view. A Notice of Public Rights, together with the Annual Governance Statement and Accounting Statement, which forms sections 1 and 2 of the Annual Governance Accountablitiy Return is published on the website and in the display cabinet outside the Town Council Office, 117 High Street. The notice gives details of a period of 30 working days during which the public may request to look at the accounts and supporting documentation. The public can ask the External Auditors question concering the accounts for the year they are auditing. Please note that the External Auditor will not answer questions that are not relevant to the accounts under audit.
