Annual Precept

Every year in December, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council agrees its budget and sets “precept” for the forthcoming year at a meeting of the Full Council. The precept is the element of the Council Tax which is raised and spent by Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council to fund its services it provides. As a Town Council, Royal Wootton Bassett does not receive any funding from Central Government, nor does it receive any rates from local businesses. At Full Council meeting on 14th December 2023 the precept for 2024/2025 is £250.08 per Band D property, which equates to an increase of £19.77 (8.6%) of the year.

Notice of Public Rights – Your right to inspect the Councils Accounts

The Council’s unaudited Annual Governance and Accountability Return for financial year 2023/24 is available for the public to view from Monday 17th June 2024 to Friday 26th July 2024.

Click to view the Notice of Public Rights, together with the Annual Governance Statement and Accounting Statements, which forms sections 1 and 2 of the Annual Governance and Accountability Return. This notice gives details of a period of 30 working days during which you may request to look at the accounts and supporting documentation. You can ask the External Auditor questions about the accounts for the year that they are auditing. Please note the External Auditor will not answer questions which are not relevant to the accounts under audit.

Annual Return and Notices

Each year the Council is required to complete and submit to its External Auditor, an Annual Governance and Accountablity Return. Once the return has been approved by the External Auditor, it is published on the Council’s website.

The Annual Return 2022/23 includes the Annual Governance Statement and Accounting Statements which have been subject to both Internal and External Audit. For 2022/23, the Internal Audit was performed by Auditing Solutions Ltd and the External Audit was performed by PKF Littlejohn LLP. The External Auditor’s Report and Certificate form part of the Annual Return.

Spending Over £500

The Local Government Transparency Code (May 2016) holds that it is recommended practice for parish and town councils to publish information relating to individual items of expenditure exceeding £500.
