Accessibility Statement

Accessibility statement for Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council

This website is run by Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

This website is currently only partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below:

Non-accessible Content

We are aware that parts of this website do not currently meet modern accessibility standards. Known issues may include:

  • Some documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • Certain colour contrasts may not meet minimum accessibility requirements
  • Some images may not contain appropriate alternative text
  • Keyboard navigation may not function consistently across all pages
  • Some older content and PDFs may not meet current accessibility standards

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services and some of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards. We are removing old, obsolete items to help reduce the number of these and updating to new accessible formats for those that need to stay.

Ongoing Review and Website Redevelopment

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council is currently undertaking a wide review of its digital services and online presence. As part of this process, we are actively exploring options for a new website platform that will provide improved accessibility, usability, and compliance with the latest WCAG standards.

Accessibility considerations will form a key part of any future redevelopment work.

What to do if you cannot access part of this website

If you need information on this website in a different format such as accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille:

We will consider your request and get back to you in 10 working days.

If you wish to visit the office and cannot view the map on our ‘home’ page, please contact us for directions.

We have an audio induction loop at the reception desk.

Since May 2023 our Agendas, Minutes and Reports have been generated by the digitalised system Modern.gov. These should be fully accessible. If you experience a problem with accessibility with any of these documents, please let us know so that we can follow this up with them.

Enforcement Procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Services (EASS).
