Christmas Lights & Shopping Evening
06 July 2020 – The Town Council has regrettably cancelled the Christmas Lights Shopping Evening planned for Friday 27th November 2020. It was felt that this event, attended by around 10,000 people could not be delivered safely on the night. Two Christmas trees and the lime trees on the High Street will still be lit and the Council is keen to engage with the public on other ideas the community could pursue this festive season.
This years event to be held on Friday 27th November 2020 has been cancelled.
This event attracts 8,000 – 10,000 people every year and is the biggest of the Town events.
The night consists of fabulous live performances, fairground rides, visiting Santa, free face painting, entertainers such as balloon modelling, many food outlets and of course all of the stalls, 48 in total!
Planning for this starts in January and on the actual night over 30 people volunteer to help with the event, doing various jobs such as; manning road closures, assisting stall holders, checking permits, dealing with any issue arising from visitors attending the night, to litter picking and many more besides.
We hope everyone had an enjoyable evening on Friday 29th November 2019 and we wish to thank everybody who helped out on the night and for those who do a brilliant job behind the scenes throughout the year!
