Mural Competition Exhibition
Over the past few years, incidents of criminal damage in our community have highlighted the need to inspire more of our young people to take pride and care for their surroundings, as many of their peers already do.
An idea developed by PCSO Kelly Hillier, was presented to both Wiltshire Police and the Town Council and fully supported – RWB Academy students were asked to create designs inspired by themes of community, environment, and youth.
The winning design is to be transformed into a stunning mural to be painted by a local artist, Marilyn Trew, alongside RWB Academy students on Borough Fields Shopping Centre Toilets.
We received 18 entries, and are grateful to the competition judges, Mayor Cllr Steve Bucknell, PSCO Kelly Hillier, Marilyn Trew and Angela Vincent who are local artists, who had the tough job of selecting the winner and to runners up. And a huge “thank you” also goes to Swindon Lions who kindly sponsored the winner’s prizes.
The winners and entries are on show at Exhibition Space in The Manor House and can also be viewed below (please double click on winners and entry image to enlarge). Please note the Town Council Office opening times if you wish to visit.
So, what happens next?
The winning entry will be adapted for the large space, and due to be painted during the last week of October 2025, with an official ceremony happening soon after. We will announce more details here on our website and on our social media platforms, so please keep watch!
We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank to all the young people who entered the competition and hope everyone who visits, enjoys this exhibition of their fantastic artwork.
