CIL Funds and Development
Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council receives 25% of funds collected by Wiltshire Council for a charge levied by them for new developments within Royal Wootton Bassett, ensuring positive benefits come from development sites.
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) ensures that developers make a fair contribution and increases the Town Council funding, who are allowed, under the regulations, to use the funds for:
- The provision, improvement, replacement, operation or maintenance of infrastructure; or
- Anything else that is concerned with addressing the demands that development places on an area.
This gives the Town Council considerable freedom to spend the proportion on projects that address the impacts of developments to our town.
Since 2021, the CIL has generated over £197,000 of funding for the Town Council and there have been various projects that have been completed or are underway in the town such as:
- Numerous improvements work to the Memorial Hall including new flooring, painting & decorating, new furniture and a contribution towards resurfacing the carpark.
- Replacement of play equipment at Jubilee Lake, New Road and Old Court play parks.
- Installation of 3 x new CCTV cameras.
- Improvements to Town Council owned footpaths.
- Contributions to the series of new dropped kerbs in the town.
- Speed Indicator Devices.
- Contribution to Parking Reviews around the town’s schools.
- Contribution to a Games Area.
The Town Council continues to proactively identify types of projects to spend CIL funds. To use these funds for a project it must be agreed by Members at a meeting of the Full Council.
If you have any suggestions for future infrastructure projects for the town, please contact your ward Town Councillor who will be happy to gather your feedback. To find your local Councillor, please visit the Town Council’s website.
