Community solar panel discount scheme launched

Launch of community solar panel discount scheme for local residents – including Purton

Local environmental groups have worked together to create a game changing group-buying scheme to help communities reduce their carbon emissions

Royal Wootton Bassett Environmental Group have joined Zero Chippenham and Sustainable Calne to offer residents of their towns up to 20% off solar photovoltaic panels. Zero Chippenham set up the scheme last year by carefully vetting several high-quality MSG certified solar panel suppliers and negotiating discounts ranging from 10 – 20% depending on the size and type of panels.

Zero Chippenham expanded its scheme first to Calne and now to Royal Wootton Bassett and surrounding areas including Purton. Anyone in SN4, SN5 and SN15 can apply. As solar photovoltaic panels are not included in the government’s Green Homes Grant, the scheme offers the opportunity to get them for a discount. Residents can read about how the scheme works by visiting https://www.ecorwb.org/community-solar-pv-discount or emailing ecorwb@mail.com to apply with their name and contact details.

With global warming reaching an ever-increasing level, consumers are seeking ways to reduce their carbon footprint. Part of the hopes of a green recovery following the global pandemic rest on a move toward renewable energy. Royal Wootton Bassett Environmental Group, Sustainable Calne and Zero Chippenham hope the scheme will enable their local communities to afford solar panels and help the environment.

Nick Murry, Chair of Zero Chippenham said, “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Royal Wootton Bassett Environmental group in expanding our Community Solar Panel Discount Scheme, which is already taking off in Chippenham and Calne.  Generating more renewable energy is essential in cutting carbon and achieving net zero by 2030.  This scheme has been designed to make it easy for people to make a positive choice to install PV by offering excellent value and reliable installers.”
