Hedging at Showfield park
Residents who live near to or have travelled by Showfield park may have noticed a temporary wooden fence with green netting being erected along its Fairfield frontage, this is in anticipation of hedging being planted and gates installed. The temporary fence will provide protection to allow the hedge to grow and establish, whilst the gates will continue to give access to council vehicles, as well as safeguard local showman George Scarrott & Son’s Family Fun Fair and visiting circuses’ ability to book out Showfield for the town’s residents enjoyment.
Showfield is a large open space and is vulnerable to unauthorised parking. After much deliberation at Full Council on 8th October 2020 and 10th December 2020, the council decided the most cost-effective preventative measures to put in and maintain, with the least impact on residents and the environment, would be to plant hedging and install gates.
In the long term, to minimise the visual effect on the area, the council will ensure the hedge grows no more that the height of the 1 metre gates.
