Supporting the transition to low carbon domestic transport in Royal Wootton Bassett

PRESS RELEASE:

Supporting the transition to low carbon domestic transport in Royal Wootton Bassett

The Town Council, who are already committed to addressing the Climate Change Emergency, fully supported a motion put forward to the Council at a meeting held on 25th March 2021 to explore the possibility of increasing number of charging points for electric vehicles within the town.

The number of charging points currently available in the town is limited. The proposals include investigating whether charging points can be installed in the Town Council owned car parks and to work with Wiltshire Council to increase the number of charging points in Borough Fields and Wood Street car parks. These initiatives would allow residents without suitable driveways or parking to charge their cars.

The proposals also include encouraging Council staff to switch to low carbon transportation options for their journeys to work as well as creating a policy for switching Council owned vehicles to electric vehicles when such vehicles become viable.

The Town Council will be exploring the grant funding available for charging points and once the proposals have been fully investigated it will consult with local residents.
