Remembrance Events 2024
A Remembrance Sunday parade and open-air service took place on Sunday 10th November 2024 around the War Memorial on the High Street in Royal Wootton Bassett. We gathered to remember the fallen, to pay our respects and gratitude to those who lost their lives in World War I, World War II and other conflicts. The parade was well attended with over 300 people marching down the High Street to the War Memorial. The service was given by the Royal British Legion Royal Wootton Bassett Branch along with Revered Canon Jane Curtis from St Bartholomew & All Saints Church.
On 11th November 2024 two members of the Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council Grounds Team represented our town at Chippenham train station in GWR’s Poppies to Paddington ceremony. This year marked the fifth year that GWR have put on ‘Poppy Trains’; allowing communities to place a wreath on the train which are then transported to London and laid at the War Memorial in the station.
At 11am the Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council, the Royal Wootton Bassett branch of the Royal British Legion and residents gathered to hold an act of remembrance on Armistice Day. A short service was held by the War Memorial with a two-minute silence being held at 11am.
Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council are incredibly grateful to all who were involved in organising and making the above events possible. We thank everyone who attended to show their respect and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives for us, their country and for our freedom.
