Over a period of four and a half years the town of Wootton Bassett came to prominence as its community stood and paid its respect to the 355 service personnel whose journey of repatriation took them through the High Street.
As the community stood in silent respect to the fallen, so the media images inspired people to write, sharing their own thoughts and feelings.
The archive has been created in remembrance of all those who gave their lives in the service of this country, who were repatriated through RAF Lyneham and whose final journey took them through our High Street.
The Town Council has now launched a new website to make available the digitised records of those memorial books filled with touching messages, poetry and photographs received, that pays tribute and honours all those who gave their lives.
