Snow Gritters
Prepared for Snow!
Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council has invested in four new salt gritters for the winter months. The Grounds Maintenance Team are now equipped with two pick-up truck mounted machines and three pedestrian pavement gritting machines to help keep the town moving during those frosty winter days.
The town council will be working in partnership with Wiltshire Council to clear key areas of the town in prolonged or severe weather. With shared use of the salt depot and up-to-date weather forecasts from local weather stations, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council will operate under direct instruction of Wiltshire Council when services are required.
It will not be possible to grit every street in the town, instead, efforts will be focussed on the busiest and steepest areas when possible. Primary routes will aim to create safer passage to Surgeries, Care Homes, Schools and Shops on both pavements and roads, with secondary efforts then focussing on busy and steep residential areas. Areas covered will depend on available staff, salt, time and authorisation from Wiltshire Council.
Although salt gritting helps make travel safer, roads can still be dangerous and care must be taken at all times. With our new capability, more areas can be gritted than previously covered, giving safer passageway to more residents and the emergency services.
