Annual Precept

Every year in December, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council agrees its budget and sets “precept” for the forthcoming year at a meeting of the Full Council. The precept is the element of the Council Tax which is raised and spent by Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council to fund its services it provides. As a Town Council, Royal Wootton Bassett does not receive any funding from Central Government, nor does it receive any rates from local businesses.

Annual Return and Notices

Each year the Council is required to complete and submit to its External Auditor, an Annual Governance and Accountablity Return (AGAR). Once the return has been approved by the External Auditor, it is published on the Council’s website. The Annual Return and Notices can be viewed in the AGAR folder in the Town Council’s library of documents.

Budget

The current year budget can be viewed under the Budget folder in the Town Council’s library of documents.

Financial Documents

The 2024/2025 Year End Financials (accounts are as yet unaudited) can be viewed in the AGAR folder in the Town Council’s library of documents.

Spending Over £500

The Local Government Transparency Code (May 2016) holds that it is recommended practice for parish and town councils to publish information relating to individual items of expenditure exceeding £500.

The 2025 monthly statement of spending over £500 can now be viewed in the Town Council’s library of documents.

Salary over £50,000

As per the Transparency Code 2015, a Town Council must publish details of all salaries over £50,000 p.a.

Number of Officers with a salary over £50,000 – 1

Officer with salary over £50,000 – Clerk/ Chief Officer

Number of staff responsible – 21

Salary – SCP55
