For over 20 years, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council has had a commitment to deliver a skatepark in the town, and since 2023 we have moved this from a pipe dream to reality.

At a meeting of the Full Council on 23 May 2024 (Minute Item 21), the Town Council agreed to delegate authority to the Chief Officer, Mark Hopkins, to engage a design and build specialist contractor to support the process of assessing potential locations, planning requirements, funding options and applications, community engagement and consultation, and the design and eventual building of a Bassett skatepark.

A report was brought to back to Full Council on 11 December 2025 (Minute Item 166) setting out the options and next steps. Following a rigorous procurement process, Maverick Industries were appointed to support the design, build and opening of a Bassett Skatepark.

The project has been driven forward at pace with Lead Officer, Naomi Coleman, supported by a Working Group of residents, businesses and town councillors.

A proposed design has been developed following consultation with local users, stakeholders and the wider community, with the aim of creating a high-quality wheeled sports facility for all ages and abilities. At the Full Council meeting on Thursday 16 July 2026, the council unanimously supported the preferred location, using a small area of the 50-acre Coronation Country Park, the move to the planning stage and all required statutory searches and reports, continuation of fund raising and grant applications, ongoing consultation, communication and engagement, with a timeline to build, complete and open in 2027!

Next steps is to refine the design in readiness to submit a planning application. We will of course continue to fundraise to help bring this exciting community project to life.
