The Town Crier
Royal Wootton Bassett Town Crier & Swordbearer, Owen Collier has held the position of Deputy Town Crier and the full position of Town Crier since 2000 on a voluntary basis. He accompanies the Mayor on many ceremonial occasions.
The public can see the Town Crier on the High Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays, come rain or shine to promote the Charter Market on Wednesdays, Town Museum, local community groups and businesses.
He also competes in Town Crier competitions across the Country.
On a wet and windy night of Monday 13th November with some torrential downpour another £55 was raised for the Mayors Charities.
The Ghost Walk held on Monday 6th November 2023 raised £75 for the Mayor’s Charities; Alzheimers Society & RWB Environment Trust. Special thanks goes to everyone who attended and for the volunteers who opened the Town Hall Museum for the event.We received a lovely message of thanks for our Town Crier, Owen Collier “The whole evening was fascinating and we really appreciate the time and effort that you put into it. Your knowledge is unprecedented and the hours you must of put into researching the top must have been extensive”.
