Community Grants Awarded
Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council is delighted to announce that £10,000 has been awarded to 10 local organisations in Royal Wootton Bassett from the Town Council’s annual Community Grants scheme.
The Town Council’s Community Grants scheme supports community groups and organisations whose projects clearly demonstrate that it benefits a significant number of local people living in Royal Wootton Bassett by improving the range of services and activities in the town. The project must also meet a least one of the Town Council’s Strategic Objectives; Healthy & Safe in Bassett, Bassett Open for Business, A Thriving Bassett, Cultural & Historic Bassett and Bassett’s Sustainable Future.
At the special Revenue & Resources – Grants meeting on Thursday 10th July, committee members heard from local organisations who had applied for grant funding. It was a great meeting hearing about all the fantastic work going on in and for our town, and how the grants will make a difference.
The successful applicants are as follows:
St Bartholomew’s Church Croft
The Church Croft were awarded £1,000 towards the costs of restoration project to the Church Croft to save its heritage. The Church Croft is open daily as a coffee and gift shop, providing essential community relief services as well as being used for meetings, clubs and events.
Royal Wootton Bassett Cricket Club
The cricket club were awarded £400 to improve facilities on their second pitch, by installing a solar powered portable power unit.
The Roxi Foundation
The organisation were awarded £300 for towards a branded gazebo and promotional materials for local community engagement. The Roxi Foundation is dedicated to supporting children and families impacted by autism and ADHD.
Wootton Bassett Infants School
The school were awarded £1,000 towards outdoors learning equipment and a whole school historical mural/ timeline. The mural will be a combined community effort drawing expertise from talented residents.
The Stay Safe Initiative
The Community Interest Company were awarded £800 towards helping educate and protect young people by delivering Boyz 2 Men and The Digital Empowerment programmes to students of Royal Wootton Bassett Academy.
Wiltshire Portage
The charity was awarded £1,000 towards their project ‘Portage Plus’, a bespoke service for children with SEND who do not meet the Wiltshire Portage criteria currently funded by Wiltshire Council.
St Bartholomew’s Church Hall
The Church Hall was awarded £500 towards the car park refurbishing works including the line marking. The Hall is regularly used by the community from dance classes, toddler groups to birthday parties and has undergone significant renovations this year.
Parochial Church Council of St Bartholomew’s Church
The Church were awarded £1,000 towards the upgrading of the Audio-Visual streaming equipment. With improved equipment, the Church will be able to improve its service to the town and become more inclusive by streaming of services.
Swindon Community First Responders
The Swindon Community First Responders were awarded £4,000 to purchase a new Raizer chair, an emergency lifting chair that is assembled around someone who has fallen to lift them up from the floor after an uninjured fall. This chair helps the local community get back on their feet and stay at home, avoiding hospital admissions.
The successful groups will be asked to attend next years’ Annual Town Meeting on 14th April 2026 to report on their project’s success.
The Community Grant scheme is now closed for the 2025/26 financial year but will reopen in Spring 2026. Please keep an eye out on the Town Council’s social media and website for further details.
