The Role of a Town Councillor

Town councillors make a huge difference to the quality of life of local people and how local issues are dealt with. They take up issues on behalf of residents and work with local people such as community groups, businesses and other organisations/ bodies.

Councillors serve and represent the community in many ways: Talking to their residents, responding to queries and issues from local people, preparing for and attending council meetings to participate in discussions and decisions and attend civic events throughout the year.

Councillors are there to ensure all residents have a voice. This includes listening to and representing the needs of various groups, making sure no one is left behind. You can shape policies and decisions that directly affect the lives of your neighbours, improve local services, and enhance the overall quality of life in your community.

It’s an opportunity to give back to the place that’s given you so much, whether it’s through improving infrastructure, supporting local businesses, or addressing residents’ concerns. As a councillor, you can work to build stronger community bonds, help foster inclusivity, and create a more cohesive environment for people to live in.
