Resurfacing works – Coped Hall Roundabout and Swindon Road

Wiltshire Council have informed the Town Council of the carriageway works programmed on Coped Hall Roundabout and Swindon Road, Royal Wootton Bassett. The site extents can be viewed on the drawing below:

Map of the site where Wiltshire Council planned carriageway work will be undertaken

These works are being split into two phases and will involve repairs to the existing carriageway, the installation of new road markings and the adjustment of surface ironwork.

These works will commence on Saturday 7th June 2025 and will be completed by Monday 16th June 2025 using a combination of 24 hour closure as well as night working (19:00 – 06:00) where possible, however, on occasions they may over run due to uncontrollable circumstances such as plant breakdowns, if weather conditions are unfavourable, or occasionally we discover the need for additional repairs once the work has started. The road will be open as normal outside of operational hours.

Due to the nature of the works and the local environment, the works will be carried out using a combination of temporary road closures and two-way lights, to ensure that adequate health & safety is maintained for the contractor & local residents. While working on Coped Hall Roundabout, the junctions north towards Hook and west towards Malmesbury will be closed while running 2-way lights on the A3102 to maintain traffic flow as much as possible. The works on A3102 Swindon Road will be night working only and will be a road closure. The two closure layouts will not be run simultaneously. Signing will be in place for all diversions and closures.

The programme for the works is as follows:
Saturday 7th June – Sunday 8th June – Night Working – Working on roundabout
Monday 9th – Thursday 12th June – Night working (19:00 – 06:00) – Working on Swindon Road
Friday 13th June – Sunday 15th June – 24-hour closure – Working on roundabout
Monday 16th June – Night working (19:00 – 06:00) – Reinstalling road markings on both phases.

There will be points throughout the works period where vehicular access will not be possible as plant may be obstructing the road or material may be newly laid which you will not be able to drive over, as early trafficking could lead to premature failure. If works are being undertaken in the vicinity of residents property; It is suggested residents speak to the workforce in advance to ask if there will be any restrictions with regards to access.

The Contractor will maintain pedestrian access for residents for the duration of the works; when residents leave their property in their vehicle, please allow extra time for any possible delays and when returning to their property, there will be traffic management operatives located at the extents of the works, residents can speak to them, explain where they live, and the operatives will be able to assist.

Signing will be in place advising that local businesses will be open as usual. A letter drop will be undertaken to all the residents located within the site extents on the week commencing 26th May 2025 ahead of the works.

Wiltshire Council would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience these works will cause but trust residents will appreciate the necessity for these essential works to maintain Wiltshire’s highway network.
