LGBTQIA + 50 years of Pride in UK
Each year, during the month of June, the LGBTQIA + community and allies celebrates and recognises the influence LGBTQIA + people have around the world. This year is Pride 50, the anniversary of the first Pride event in the UK. A specific theme is chosen each year, to make people aware of the achievements and struggles of the community and for 2022 the theme is on ‘Politics in Art’ and is based on art and design.
For LGBTQIA + people, Pride Month promotes dignity, equal rights, self-affirmation and is a way of increasing society’s awareness of the issues they face.
Local charity, Swindon & Wiltshire Pride is holding a Pride Picnic from 12noon until 6pm on Saturday 13th August 2022 in Queens Park, Swindon and an After Party for 18+. Please visit their website https://www.swindonwiltshirepride.co.uk/ for more information on both events.
